Effect of Botox on hand blood flow in patients with systemic sclerosis and Effect of Botox on pain and healing of digital ulcer in patients with systemic sclerosis (basalforskning, klinisk forskning, translasjonsforskning)  - Kristin Bergersen (Hudavdelingen, OUS, UiO)

Off-label use of Botulinum toxin A (Botox®) is last years became a treatment option for ischemic digital ulcera in patients with systemic sclerosis and Raynauds phenomenon. Studies show pain relief, faster ulcer healing rate and lower recurrence rate. Botox inhibits the release of acetyl choline from the presynaptic membrane as a chemical sympatectomy and dos probably increase blood flow. However, the physiologic effect of Botox on hand circulation in systemic sclerosis is not well known. We aim to study impact of Botulinum toxin A (Botox®) on blood perfusion of the hand, the effect of Botox as treatment on ulcer healing and recurrence and effect on life quality.
