Professor Jonathan Cole will present "The Experience and Neuroscience of Severe Sensory Loss".
The lecture will describe the consequences of the loss of large myelinated sensory nerves, (leading to absence of touch and proprioception), focussing on the experience of subject IW, with whom I have worked for nearly 40 years, but also including other similar participants. To understand the role of proprioception and touch we need to explore the consequences of their loss. The lecture will consider the neuroscience of his remaining sensory afferents, the awareness of motor command, motor learning and programming without feedback, slow touch and fast pain, gait and gesture.
Note: registration for this Masterclass will be via Zoom
