Dear Colleagues,
With great pleasure we noticed a day ago that the Clarivate Journal Citation Report calculates the new impact factor (IF) of Clinical Neurophysiology to 3.708, a substantial increase from the IF of 2019 (3.214). Great thanks to Editor in Chief Prof. Ulf Ziemann and his editorial team! Thanks go also to Prof. Margitta Seeck and her team for a further increase of the Clarivate Journal Citation Indicator to 0.5 for IFCN’s newer journal, Clinical Neurophysiology Practice. We hope to have a first Impact Factor for CNP next year. And, of course, thanks to all supporting clinical neurophysiology as authors via the IFCN.
Please note that our Editors are also accepting submissions on basic (non-clinical) neurophysiology as well. Our most quoted review is the consensus paper by Simone Rossi et al on safety of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, having appeared in the third revision in January 2021.
Ulf Ziemann’s editorial choice of the month for July is: Hui J, Zomorrodi R, Lioumis P, Ensafi E, Voineskos D, Voineskos A, Hadas I, Rajji TK, Blumberger DM, Daskalakis ZJ, Altered interhemispheric signal propagation in schizophrenia and depression, Clinical Neurophysiology 132. When stimulating the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex interhemispheric, signal propagation was significantly increased in patients with MDD and SCZ compared to controls, but did not differ between patient groups.
The next Masterclass by IFCN will take place virtually on Saturday, 17 July 2021 at 10:00 AM EDT (4:00 PM CET). Dr. Larry Hirsch will present an ICU EEG Terminology Update.
The IFCN continuous to support education in clinical neurophysiology. We are open for suggestions or wishes, which may be country- or region-specific. Submit your ideas to me via email: wpaulus@med.uni-goettingen.de. Educational efforts are discussed at each Executive Committee meeting, the next one taking place on July 8 & 9.
One idea worth pursuing is publishing subareas of Clinical Neurophysiology into a Scholarpedia format. This allows anybody to contribute and update information at any time. The difference from a Wikipedia format is that the (new) content will be reviewed by the responsible Scholarpedia topic editor. If you are interested in starting a pilot on a topic of your choice as a responsible editor and/or have experience with this format, please contact me.
With Best Wishes,
Walter Paulus
IFCN President
