The aim of this talk is to review the basic principles of dual and multi energy computed tomography (DECT) and the available technological approaches to DECT-imaging. Further, available reconstructions from DECT will be discussed with a particular focus towards their application in oncologic imaging.
In the course of this talk, fundamental concepts of spectral CT and image reconstruction will be reviewed. Followed by a case-based review on how which reconstruction can be used in daily operations with a particular scope on abdominal imaging and oncology. Based on recent studies, future directions and applications of spectral results in oncologic imaging will discussed. As any new technology has its limitations or drawbacks, possible obstacles for technological and diagnostic workflow will be referred. Last, a brief review on the most recent studies will try to give an outlook on current trends in DECT-applications in oncologic patients including photon counting computed tomography.

Dr. Nils Grosse Hokamp, PhD, MBA er senior-radiolog ved Institutt for diagnostisk og intervensjonell radiologi ved i Universitetssykehuset Köln, og førsteamanuensis i eksperimentell radiologi og radiologi ved det medisinske fakultetet ved universitetet i Köln. Hans kliniske fokus ligger på abdominal og onkologisk bildediagnostikk, og han er leder for CT-forskningen ved universitetet. Universitetssykehuset Köln var blant de første brukerne av Spectral CT i klinisk rutine fra og med mai 2016, og basert på dr Hokamps praktiske erfaring ble han invitert til Case Western Reserve University i Cleveland, Ohio, USA i 12 måneder. Forskningsgruppen hans fokuserer nå på kvantitative bilde-biomarkører hentet fra spektral CT, spesielt jodkart. Dr. Grosse Hokamp har vært forfatter eller medforfatter på >100 publikasjoner relatert til Spectral CT.
