Unngå bruk av CT ved mistanke om akutt appendicitt hos barn, før ultralyd har vært vurdert som et alternativ

Akutt appendicitt er en klinisk diagnose, og ved sterk klinisk mistanke gjøres laparaskopi uten preoperativ bildediagnostikk. Ved behov for supplerende bidediagnostikk er ultralyd førstevalg hos barn. Ultralyd er nesten like nøyaktig som CT i utredning av akutt appendicitt hos barn, og medfører ingen strålebelastning. CT er sjelden indisert, men gjøres hos utvalgte barn med uavklart akutt abdomen.
